New Mexico Freshman Runs 8:44.62 In First Collegiate 3,000 Meters At Dempsey Indoor

Pamela Kosgei broke another University of New Mexico record on Friday at the UW Invitational in Seattle when she ran 8:44.62 in the 3,000 meters. 

Kosgei's time is the second-fastest in the NCAA so far this indoor season and it stripped nine seconds off Weini Kelati's Lobos record.

Kosgei, a freshman from Kenya, had already bettered two Kelati school records in the mile (4:30.68) and the 5,000 meters (15:00.36). 

Washington's Amina Maatoug, a transfer from Duke, was second in 9:00.44, fourth fastest in program history.

Evans Kurui of Washington State, also a freshman, ran 7:48.44 to win the men's 3,000 meters. He led 12 men under eight minutes in the event. 

Meanwhile, Washington twin pole vaulters Hana and Amanda Moll both cleared 4.66m (15-3.25), tacking one centimeter onto their season's best and breaking the meet record. They are the top two vaulters in the NCAA. 

Washington State's Micaela De Mello won the women's 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.16 seconds, winning the event by more than half a second.

 Cal Poly sprinter MacGregor TeSelle broke the meet record in the men's 200 meters with 21.09 seconds.
