Maggard runs huge personal best 7:52.99 at UW Invite By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Utah State senior Dillon Maggard smashed his school's record by more than 10 seconds and posted a national-leading time of 7:52.99 in the 3,000 meters Saturday at the UW Invitational at Seattle's Dempsey Indoor. Maggard, who placed sixth at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships last November, shaved nearly 30 seconds off his own personal best for 3K (8:21.54). In a compelling women's 3,000 meters, Sifan Hassan of the Nike Oregon Project ran 8:34.45 to break the facility record. Shalane Flanagan of the Nike Bowerman TC also ran under the old Dempsey record on the way to second in 8:43.28. In the men's mile, Yomif Kejelcha of the Nike Oregon Project ran 3:56.95 for the win and Northern Arizona's Andy Trouard was second in 3:58.01. NCAA Division 2 standout David Ribich of Western Oregon ran 3:58.88 for third. It was the first time under four minutes for Trouard or Ribich. Lynsey Sharp of adidas won the women's 800 meters in 2:04.97. First-year pro Raevyn Rogers won the 400 meters in a meet-record 52.24 seconds. Arizona freshman Jordan Geist came within an inch of breaking the Dempsey facility record in the shot put with a huge early season throw of 70-4.50 (21.45m). That surpassed Ryan Crouser's 2015 meet record by more than a foot. Geist's first throw over 70 feet also broke the University of Arizona indoor record by more than two feet. More news |
